A house!

So, the first week of going out to look at houses was pretty disappointing. Everything looked great when we checked them out online... but none of them were nearly as good as they portrayed. A bit anticlimactic for our first time out.

We went out again this last sunday and it went a lot better. There were several good options depending on how we wanted to go. One of the first we looked at wasn't perfect but it had potential and was at a great price. By the end of the day we were tired and our brains were a bit mushy. But we decided to stop by the house we really liked one more time.

It's a 5 bedroom 2 bathroom house. The kitchen isn't as large as we wanted, but it was an open layout to the dining/living area. It was larger than a lot of the houses we've seen, so we were willing to over look that minor problem, and it comes with stainless steel appliances and a gas oven which was great.
The second problem was a small master bedroom that doesn't have an on suite bathroom and not enough closet space. But we could combine one of the extra bedrooms with the master suite and at the same time give us more closet and make the bathroom connect directly to the bedroom. Until then it's livable.
We really liked that it's more spacious than most of what we've seen. It is in great condition. It has a large laundry room downstairs in the finished basement, and two more bedrooms with a large living area. It's got a huge yard with plenty of space for a garden and room for Rome and the soon to have new puppy. Plus a large paved covered patio attached to the house.
The house was on the market for $139, but all the houses around it are valued at $160-180. And its a nice neighborhood from what we could see. The houses were well taken care of. Plus we're in a little culdesac.

We decided to go for it and put an offer down. So Monday morning we met with our realtor Kim, and went through all the paperwork. After a day of anxiety they counter offered and we accepted Monday evening. We got it for $134 and they are paying closing costs. We're way excited! If all goes well we will be closing April 30 and moving in. And we'll be paying less per month than our combined cost for rent currently is! Can't beat that.

The plan is to get one or two roommates as well. It's a big enough house with two bedrooms downstairs that would work great. Plenty of parking at the house. Long term plans include putting in a kitchenette downstairs as well. And with extra money coming in we get everything we want to do done sooner.

We just gotta hope everything is smooth sailing from here with the inspection and so on. I'm guessing with so many little things this month is going to fly by pretty quick.

So start making your plans to come visit! We'de love to have you over :)
